No Halibut, But Loads Of Cod

Well, my trip to Whitby didn't quite go according to plan! The blasted weather gods put the mockers on the entire trip - but hey, that's what we all have to deal with in the wonderful world of boat fishing!
The wind was blowing northeasterly Force 6 for the best part of three days when myself and Jim arrived in Whitby last Sunday afternoon. The forecast was for it to drop considerably overnight so we could get out Monday, but that didn't happen - instead it increased! I was debating whether to drive back home so I could be in the office on the tuesday, but Skipper Paul assured me that we would get out on the Tuesday, and we did!
We couldn't catch any livebaits as planned, and although we had a good six hours drifting in search of a halibut, it was quite clear that the conditions were less than favourable - the sea was churned up and really dirty. So, we had a few hours on the cod on the way back in - unbelievable! It's been years since i caught so many cod in such a short space of time out of Whitby - there were fish everywhere. i scored really well by using a blue and white RedGill Evo - which seemed to outfish all the other shads that the lads on board were using.
You can read about our exploits in more detail in the August issue!
