You CRAZY Fools!

Well, I've just got back from a mammoth trip to Swansea, south Wales. The weather has been very unkind this past few days, as I'm sure you're aware, but we still managed some excellent bass fishing.
Last Thursday was a total blow out, and I was debating whether or not to drive back home, but a couple of pints with charter skipper Rob Rennie, who runs custom charter out of Swansea, soon had my hopes up.
"It's forecast to drop tomorrow afternoon/ evening, so I think we'll head on out first thing and give it a proper go Dave," he said, willingly.
Well, we did "head out" on Friday morning - straight into a Force 6! It was certainly a test for Rob's new 30ft Evolution long cabin, and I must say that the boat handles the sea with ease. I am VERY impressed!
We headed straight for the relative shelter of Oxwich Bay, where we set about lure fishing for the bass close to the rocks. We nailed a few straight away, then all of a sudden I saw some nutter in a kayak paddling towards us - from the seaward side!
I couldn't make out a face, but as soon as he spoke I knew who it was - the only person mad enough to be out in such horrible conditions - it was none other than Simon Everett!
Well, to cut a long story short, the wind did ease to about a Force 5, so we punched out to the 3-mile bank and hammered a load of bass there to just over 5lb. We kipped on the boat and made a dawn raid on the bank, then further offshore for some top, but to no avail.
All in all it was a great trip, and one that I won't be forgetting in a hurry!
You can read about our exploits in the September issue - trust me, it's well worth the read!
