South Wales Biker Charity Challenge

DB
Posted on 04 May 2010

The kind-hearted fundraiser will reach top speeds of just 40mph, as he visits all of the RNLI’s mainland lifeboat stations to raise funds for a new RNLI lifeboat for The Mumbles. He is undertaking the 15-day challenge as part of his 40th Birthday celebrations.
Kevin will start his journey from The Mumbles RNLI Lifeboat Station on 1st May and hopes to raise £1,000 towards a modern Tamar class RNLI lifeboat for The Mumbles. He has a very personal reason for backing the RNLI’s Money for Mumbles appeal.
He says: ”I will be dedicating the trip to Lee Woods, who died in a boating accident on 25 April 2004 at the age of 17. Lee's body was recovered by the RNLI 16 days after the accident on the 11 May – my birthday. Lee’s father Steve and I have been friends since childhood and I wanted to show my support to my friend who has been fundraising tirelessly for the RNLI, since the volunteer crews recovered his son’s body”.
Steve Wood launched the 'Money for Mumbles' RNLI appeal in August 2009 and has since organised countless fundraisers to bring in the cash. The appeal aims to raise £150,000 toward the modern £2.7M Tamar class lifeboat for the volunteer RNLI crew at The Mumbles.
