Home Nations Boat Championships Ireland
DBPosted on 09 Jun 2010
Despite the absence of Championship holders Scotland, who were unable to field a Team for this year’s event, the Championships were a great success with over 20 species of fish recorded from the rich waters off the Belmullet coastline. For Ireland this was their first win for many years, and highlights the slender difference that now exists between the Home nations at this level.
Day one saw the England Team of Richard Russell, Mike Patten, Perry Dack, Dave Mann and, Steve Clements, managed by Ray Ashby take a slender lead of 8% into the final day of the competition, whilst the Welsh team of Chris Pucher, Tim Theyer, Garry Hobbs, Chris Hamblin, and Phil Clarke, managed by Robbie Roberts, needed to make up considerable ground if they were to stay in touch. Day two provided boat wins for England on two of the three boats, but a superb effort by the Irish pair of Josie Barrett and Liam Longmore pulled back the deficit, and gave the Home Team a well earned 13% victory.
The final results from the Home Nations Boat Championships were Ireland 888, England 875 and Wales 813. England are hosts for the 2011 event which is being held in Weymouth, and they will be looking to go one better following three successive ‘silver’ placings on ‘foreign’ territory during the past three years.
The England Team wish to thank sponsors Tronix, Ammo, Swift Tackle, Red Gil, Sakuma, Weymouth Angling, Alderney Angling, Yorkshire Angling, Gemeni Tackle and the Roman Group for their support for the Team for this year’s event
